LAYETTES & BABY SHOWERS

STS provides layettes, baby baskets, of essential newborn items including knitted booties, blankets, hats, quilts, clothes courtesy of the Friday Quilters and Knit-Wits of SaddleBrooke and other organizations. Units will periodically host baby showers to collect items and donations to fill the baby baskets. They are then given to vetted pregnant military personnel or spouses of military personnel by Family Readiness base services. Each basket has an approximate value of $150.

Bonnie J. Scotto, AFC, MHR  Community Readiness Consultant  from Davis Monthan AFB received 20 laundry baskets filled with baby items, quilted or knitted quilts wrapped around a cute stuffed animal, knitted sweaters, hats and booties, book, toy, a total of 4 outfits  1 each of 3-6 mos, 6-9 mos, 9-12 mos, 12-24 mos. Also a Mommy bag with lotions, soothing eye mask, soaps. Diapers, wipes, thank you notes. Each basket has a letter to the Mommy-to-be  telling of the women of SaddleBrooke from quilters, knitters, generous donations from women of SaddleBrooke lovingly donating these items for their precious newborn.  Letting them know that they are thought of and thankful for their sacrifices for us and our Country.

At DM, every other month Bonnie has a group of expectant parents come in for some key information on how having a baby will change their lives, how to budget, how to take care of the baby and even prepare older siblings for the new arrival.     It is our hope together that our baskets will bring joy and help in a small way the vetted family receiving these baskets.

The Friday Quilters, Knit Wits, Unit 29 have had yearly baby shower parties for the ladies giving their generous gifts and checks towards filling each basket.   Unit 49 had their first baby shower last fall. I am hoping that other units within SaddleBrooke and SaddleBrooke Ranch will host a “baby shower” or send a check specifically for items for the baby baskets.

I am available to come and speak at a baby shower about our wonderful organization which is helping many soldiers, airmen/women and veterans.    Please contact me at grammbethm@aol.com   or 520-818-0971.

Thank you
